Major Events

The first major event in this book is Katniss volunteering for Prim at the reaping, and then Peeta Mellark being picked for the  boys. Then the chariot ride where Katniss gets her nickname the "Girl on Fire". Then there is the interviews of all of the tributes, where Peeta admits his love for Katniss. The next major event is the Games begin, and Peeta distracts Katniss so that she won't get the bow and arrow. Then Katniss' calf gets burned really bad by a fire the Gamemakers made. Then Katniss teams up with little Rue from District 11. The next major event is Katniss drops a tracker jacker nest on the Careers killing Glimmer. Then Rue and Katniss team up. Then Katniss blows up all of the Careers supplies. Then Rue gets caught and dies. Next, the rules are changed so that two people can win if they are from the same district, so Katniss goes and finds Peeta who is severely injured. The feast is where Clove gets killed by Thresh, and Katniss gets the medicine for Peeta's leg. Then it's just Cato and the star- crossed lovers from District 12 left. Cato and Katniss fight it out on the Cornicopia while he has Peeta in a headlock. Katniss shoots Cato in the hand and Peeta pushes him off into the pack of dogs where is eaten. After Cato dies, the rules change again so that there can only be one victor. Peeta and Katniss pretend that they are going to eat nightlock berries, so that the Gamemakers have to let both of them live. Katniss and Peeta win the Games. Peeta finds out Katniss was only pretending to fall in love him. The last major event is Katniss and Peeta are home.
